22 Septembre 2021The docking of the NG-16 resupply spacecraft with the ISS in August marked the arrival in orbit of the latest French experiments designed by CNES as part of the Alpha mission. After 152 days in space, astronaut Thomas Pesquet has already completed four spacewalks and performed a host of science experiments from CADMOS/CNES and from other space agencies like ESA and NAS. His schedule is still busy.

15 Mars 2017Six years after the French Space Operations Act (FSOA) came into effect, CNES brought together space stakeholders today to analyse its impacts in light of the latest evolutions in orbital systems and launchers. Drafted on the initiative of the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Research, the FSOA was adopted on 3 June 2008. Today’s review found that actions since undertaken by CNES have achieved very good results.

Operation of Ariane 5 launchers: solid propellant motor passes sixth static firing test

8 Septembre 2016Today’s static firing test of the Ariane 5 solid propellant motor was a clear success. This sixth firing test of the motor was conducted on the BEAP solid booster test stand at Guiana Space Centre—Europe’s space port in Kourou—under the aegis of CNES’s Launcher Directorate and as part of ESA’s Launchers Exploitation Accompaniment Programme (LEAP).

Official opening of CNES’s new Issus-Aussaguel operations centre

11 Septembre 2015Thursday 17 September, CNES will be opening the new spacecraft tracking and control operations centre at its Issus-Aussaguel receiving station. The new centre confirms CNES’s long-term presence at the site and the desire to acquire its own independent operational facilities. It also brings to an end the historic sharing arrangement with France Telecom established more than 30 years ago when both entities were overseen by the Ministry of Telecommunications.
